Kimikage from Kobe
The female choir Kimikage was established in 2018 by conductor Hideki Yamamoto with the purpose of celebrating of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Sweden & Japan. “Kimikage” is the Japanese name for ”lily”, and named from the Swedish floral emblem.
Tokyo University of Science Glee Club
Tokyo University of Science (TUS) Glee Club was established in 1968 and has been directed by conductor Yusuke Hikino since 2007. TUS Glee has won several awards at national competitions and appeared in many TV shows in Japan. Mr. Hikino composes or arranges almost all programs for their concerts.
South Echo from Kurume
South Echo is established by conductor Keisuke Nakashima. In 2016, when Stockholms Studentsångare and Lilla Kören travelled to Japan, Mr. Nakashima and his 3 choirs in Fukuoka got together and had a concert and home-stay exchange with them.
Lilla Kören (”The Small Choir”)
Lilla Kören is a choir that aims to sing the best choral music. The choir was founded in 2005 by conductor Pelle Olofson and his former pupils from Adolf Fredrik’s music school. The choir has been on several tours in Sweden and abroad, has won four first prizes in international choir competitions and recently released their fourth CD. Lilla kören has also performed in several productions at the People’s Opera (Folkoperan) in Stockholm, and earlier this year they premiered a production of their own at this venue. The choir has a mixed repertoire, but holds contemporary music closest to its heart.
Stockholms Studentsångare (Stockholm Academic Male Choir)
Stockholms Studentsångare was founded in 1905 and is one of Sweden’s leading male choirs. The repertoire is very broad and rooted in all parts of the male choir literature: old and new, profane and sacred. Recurrent events in the activities of the choir are the yearly spring and christmas concerts, performance at the graduation and installation ceremony at Stockholm University, performances at Stockholm City Hall, CD productions, performances on television, tours and much more…
H. M. King Carl XVI Gustaf has permanent patronage of Stockholm Academic Male Choir.
Stockholms Akademiska Damkör (Stockholm Academic Women’s Choir)
Since its start in 2013, Stockholms Akademiska Damkör has become an obvious part of the Stockholm music scene. The choir consists of 40 singers, and the repertoire is broad with both classical choral music and modern compositions. Stockholms Akademiska Damkör was founded as a sister choir to Stockholms Studentsångare.
Pelle Olofson is the conductor of all three Swedish choirs appearing at the concert. He graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm in 1984, where he studied composing and conducting. He has composed film music, electro-acoustic music, music for orchestra and, of course, choir music. He has also worked as a singer in the Swedish Radio Choir, Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and on Swedish opera stages. As conductor he has worked with all professional orchestras in Stockholm, at the Royal Swedish Opera and as chorus master at Folkoperan. He led Adolf Fredriks manskör and Adolf Fredriks gosskör until 2017.
